About Fagali´I Airport
Fagali’I Airport is located in Fagali’I, Samoa. It is a publicly owned airport that belongs to the Polynesian Airlines and the Samoan Government. The airport is however operated by the Samoan Airport Authority. It is not noticeable at first if a person is not paying much attention which might be because unlike other major airports, the Fagali’I Airport is not very big in size and does not possess the luxuries witnessed in other airports. However, this does not mean its functionality is any less in comparison to other airports.
People booking flights in this airport should expect to fly in eight-seater planes. The accessibility of the airport is convenient for people living in Apia who prefer using Fagali’I Airport instead of enduring a long drive to the main airport. The airlines that have operated in this airport include the Polynesian Airline, Samoa Air, South Pacific Island Airways and Talofa airlines.

The airport, however, faced some challenges in 2005 when it was decommissioned by the government who argued that the airport was not safe enough to function. However, this decision was overruled in 2009 when Polynesian Airlines reopened it and introduced international flights to places like American Samoa and Pago Pago. Since the reopening, the airport has acquired a third of DHC-6 Twin Otter. The Polynesian Airlines made this purchase with the motive of providing better services to the people of Samoa.
The Fagali’I Airport is strategically positioned. There are several food outlets surrounding the airport according to lonelyplanet.com. However, there is nowhere to stay in the airport. The only seats available in the airport premises are plastic chairs which might be a little uncomfortable for some people. Fortunately, there are several hotels near the airport that individuals can seek accommodation. The Insel Fehmarn hotel and Samoan Outrigger hotels are located only a mile away from the airport.
The airport is also surrounded by museums like the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum that can be a good form of entertainment for people visiting the area for the first time according to wikipedia.org. Despite the fact that it is not as sophisticated in comparison to other airports, Fagali’I Airport is still one of the best in the Samoan region.
