How Sujit Choudhry is helping rethink the approach of constitutional law

Professor Sujit Choudhry has made a name for himself in the reading, writing, and interpretation of the comparative and constitutional law. Over the years, Prof. Sujit has participated in the drafting, amending and writing of several constitutions in various nations around the world, making him a strong voice in that realm.

A graduate of Oxford, Harvard and Toronto Universities, Prof.Sujit has sat in advisory bodies and constitutional reform forums of countries such as Nepal, Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Sour Africa, Sri Lanka and Ukraine. He is a former dean of constitutional law at the University of California, Berkely.

Through his organization, Center For Constitutional Transitions, Prof. Sujit Choudhry reaches out to like-minded thinkers creating a network of global persons committed to constitutional law. He uses the organization, for which he is the founding director, to conduct research and offer thematically oriented solutions to constitutional processes. With an experience spanning over forty years working with more than 25 countries, the organization has gathered information that is essential to the development of constitutional law.

The Centre For Constitutional Transitions has broadly strengthened efforts towards gathering and sharing knowledge in the field of constitutional law. Through partnerships organizations such as the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the organizations aim at impacting lasting change in constitutional dispensations.

The 47-year old Sujit Choudhry was born in New Delhi, India and studied biology at the McGill University, B.A in law from the University of Oxford and LL.M from Harvard Law School.  Check

Comparative Law- Sujit Choudhry

The Ukraine government recently organized an event that brought together law makers such as Sujit Choudhry. The conference was held on 10TH July 2017. The event which organized and hosted by think tank Ukraine was meant to discuss the constitution difficulties facing the country as well as the semi-presidential system of Ukraine. The law experts met in Kiev to talk about how they can help Ukraine improve its governing process. Mr. Sujit mentioned that it was such a pleasure to meet other legislators from all over the world in that important event to discuss administrative powers of Ukraine. For an extended period, the Ukrainian governing system has been facing some major challenges including separation of power between the Prime minister and the President, concentration of powers within the presidency, weak political parties as well as the electoral system among others. The meeting was attended by other top law makers including Thomas Sidelius of Darlan University and Sumit Bisarya of International IDEA. Sujit Choudhry Speaks Out About the Center of Constitution Transitions

In a recent interview with the CEOCFO Magazine, Sujit Choudhry affirmed that the need to combine the skills of international networks while producing evidence-based policy options for decision makers influenced the formation of the Center of Constitution Transitions. Therefore, according to Sujit, Center of Constitution Transitions is a platform that incorporates the minds of global organizations, and NGOs to initiate grounded policies. Sujit’s organization works in close collaboration with more than 50 experts from over 25 countries.

From Sujit’s point of view, the idea behind his group was to provide current policies to the decision makers which he felt was missing. Sujit Choudhry has worked for many years as a constitution advisor and having collaborated with emerging democracies, and the renowned professor understands the need for a body to assist in the policy making.
