Highland Capital Management is a SEC registered investment company led by James Dondero. Together with its partners, the company manages about $18 billion of assets. It is one of the experienced and largest managers of alternative credit in the world. Highland Capital Management concentrates in credit strategies. These include credit hedge funds, private equity, long-only funds, separate accounts, and collateralized loan obligations. In addition, the company specializes on distressed and special situations.
It also provides alternative investments. These comprise of long/short equities, emerging markets, and natural resources. James Dondero is the co-founder of Highland Capital Management. Presently, James Dondero, the president of Highland Capital Management lives in Dallas, Texas. He has more than 30 years experience in both the equity and credit markets. His focus has been on distressed and high-yield investing. James Dondero has initiated several developments at Highland Capital Management. They include collateralized loan obligations and credit oriented solutions aimed at Highland’s investors globally.
Dondero graduated from the University of Virginia with dual majors in accounting and finance. He attained the highest honors from the Mclntire School of Commerce. James Dondero started his career with the Morgan Guaranty training program before joining American Express and subsequently GIC. He co-established Highland Capital Management in 1993 together with Mark Okada.
